Our Story

SAR Remote Support is a service offered by the Remote Support Corps of the Appalachian Search and Rescue Conference (ASRC).  The ASRC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides training standards and credentialing for SAR teams.

In 2016, several ASRC members proposed that the Conference offer remote services to the various ASRC teams, allowing searchers who were unable to respond to missions in person to assist with planning and mapping.  The organization charged a small group of interested people with developing a suborganization that could provide these services.

By 2018, a functional system had been created and tested, and the RSC was chartered by the ASRC Board of Directors in 2019.  Since that time, the RSC has been supporting search missions, engaging in regular training, running live and simulated exercises, and host an annual training event open to anyone in the SAR community.

Our Mission

Plans staff using SARTOPO for search and rescue

We are here to assist with your SAR mission from afar.

Our team includes members with significant experience as:

  • Search Managers/Incident Commanders
  • Command Staff
  • Ground Searchers
  • Canine Handlers

All of our members are trained provide our primary services: Mapping, Segmentation, Task Writing, and Planning.

It’s common to have the planning section working through the night to develop strategy and write search tasks for the next shift, only to need to work all day as well.  SARRemoteSupport can bring in an entire shift of staff, allowing on-scene staff to rest and prepare for their next shift.  Our team is trained to integrate into your existing search organization, augmenting your base staff and freeing up your personnel for tasks for which they need to be physically present.

Another common scenario is that command staff may find themselves with a long drive to the location of a search, and upon arrival, require some time to analyze the map and develop the first set of tasks to be dispatched. Instead, command can request assistance from SARRemoteSupport while en route to the search location, and our team will begin planning and developing tasks immediately, letting the on-scene staff dispatch tasks immediately upon arrival.

We have members in multiple time zones across the USA, ready to work for you during the day or all night long, whatever you need to move the search forward.
